September is here, kids are back in school and
the trails are in great shape! This might be my favorite time of year to ride.
I'm usually in relatively good riding shape, the days are a little cooler, air
is crisper and riding just seems perfect! I hope that you have been out enjoying
it!
Thanks to the Stowe Land Trust for sponsoring a ride in Sterling
Valley. There were over 20 people, we broke up into two groups and rode till
dark. The rain started and we all reconvened at the Skier Shop (thanks Bobbie!)
for a BBQ. It was a well attended event and something we need to do more
of.
The Adams Camp project is going well. I couldn't be happier about
the quality of the trail being built. It will be incredibly fun for everyone.
The hard part will be climbing to the top, riding down will be a breeze. With
that said, I am nervous that
there is still a lot of work to do and not a lot of season left. We're at a
very critical time in the project and need to push hard to finish. We have three more work days scheduled this month. See below for details. We need to get a lot more folks out. If you've not been out to help yet, please try to fit it in. If you've been out, thanks and please consider coming out again, we
need the help! I promise that you'll enjoy the trail more
after helping to build it. Kind of funny how that works, but there is a real
pride in ownership.
See you on the trail! Rick

Phone a friend - We need folks to contact fellow SMBC members to check in, see how their riding is going, what we can do better and when they would like to come out to volunteer - I need 1 person to manage this and a few to make some calls. It is actually fun! People are very receptive and fun to chat up.
Trail Advocate - Work with a small team to get landowner approval and help expand the network.

Rides are contingent on weather. Check here for up to date status.
Five Hills Bike Shop:
Thursday night 6pm is the main shop ride - Waterbury trails. Leave from
Five Hills Bikes/Bike29 at 6pm. Ride is about 2 hours, social pace,
mostly Perry Hill trails. All are welcome. Call 244-7330 or email georgew@bike29.com for questions.
Tuesday Ladies Night Rides:
These move around depending on the week. The ladies rides are open to
ladies with at least some mountain biking experience, they are not
beginner rides (sorry, the terrain is just too challenging in Stowe and
Waterbury). It’s a great environment to challenge yourself and work on
some skills with a supportive group of ladies or make new friends that
enjoy mountain biking as much as you do. The schedule for the summer is
posted on fivehillsbikes.com. Any questions? Email mandy@bike29.com
